India: Words and Music with Friends

This October Barbara will travel to India to visit Jodhpur, Jaipur and Hyderabad. While visiting Jaipur Barbara will visit Geejgarh where she will tour the library that she funded the development of through READ Global. READ Global brings together education, enterprise and community development to create lasting social change in rural communities, where they build Community Library and Resource Centers (READ Centers). READ Centers are designed to serve whole communities and their surrounding areas. Resources are available for types of people – adults, children, students, teachers, women and even those who are illiterate. For more information on how Read Global operates check out the business model on their site.

Barbara and David Kipper have funded four libraries in Nepal and one in Rajasthan, where Barbara will take part in the dedication ceremony during this trip. “READ Community Library and Resource Centers are changing lives and transforming rural communities. During the past two decades, we saw our impacts expand and deepen in the communities where we work. READ Centers have become a strong centerpiece for community development." Toni Neubauer said, Founder of READ Global. "With our recent expansion to Bhutan and Indian, we are focused on empowering many more rural communites.”

Barbara plans to visit numerous historical sites while in India as well as the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF), Geejgarh, Falaknuma Palace, Begum Bazaar, Charminar, Fort at Golconda, and the Qutb Shahi Tombs.

This trip was designed by Dr. Toni Neubauer of Myths & Mountains and Read Global.
